Drug Information

Drug Enforcement is a critical part of the many services that Long County Sheriff's Office provides for the citizens of Long County.  Drug use whether it is illegal drugs or prescription medication, the abuse of either is harmful not only to the individual but to their families and the community.  Many drug abusers feel that they need the drugs either due to depression, peer pressure, or dependency through regular use.  The mission of Long County Sheriff's Office is not just to arrest these individuals, but to help them beat their addictions and help themselves regain their lives.

Sergeant Austin McGinn is currently assigned to drug investigations. McGinn started working with the Long County Sheriff's office in 2013. McGinn is a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for Criminal Justice, who also worked for their law enforcement department. Should you have to contact McGinn please email him at amcginn312@gmail.com.

Marijuana

 

 

Marijuana one of the most well known illegal drugs known, it is grown from the Cannabis Plant.  This plant has been used for many purposes since the neolithic period.  The U.S. used marijuana in a truth serum which had good results.  In the 1970's marijuana was labeled a gateway drug, that leads most users to seek other, more dangerous drugs, to get high on.  It is said that the nicotine in cigarettes and other tobacco products, is as if not more addicting than marijuana.  The chemical psychoactive compound in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and is one of four hundred compounds present in marijuana

Cocaine is a stimulant that is an extract of the leaves of the coca plant.  It is illegal in most part of the world, its use not only stimulates the central nervous system but suppresses appetite and is an anesthetic.  Depending on the amount used the effects of cocaine lasts from 15-30 minutes to 1 hour.
